Nearly every website these days has an image slider integrated into the homepage. These sliders are a great way for website owners to showcase what they have to offer in a series of images that automatically rotates usually at the top of the page. Most of these sliders use “static” image (just a plain image or text that is displayed). What the LayerSlider plugin does is allows you to add multiple image in “layers” on each slide which can move independently from each other and form an animated image that can capture the attention of your visitors. With LayerSlider, you can have multiple slides each with their own separate layers and animation types.
This is a premium WordPress plugin that requires the purchase a licence to use. The licence currently costs $17USD and is available from the Envarto Market Place.

Advantages Of The Plugin
The LayerSlider plugin has a great user interface where you can add as many different slides to each slider as you like and then add separate layers to each slide to build your overall slider into a truly spectacular presentation.
The plugin offers you the ability to create unlimited sliders. So you can not only create a great looking main page slider, you can also create smaller “advertising” sliders if you choose to create awareness of your products and special offers in strategic areas across your website.
The plugin makes it easy to add a slider to any position on your website by allowing you to copy and paste the unique shortcode of a specific slider to where you would like to be displayed.
It has a visual “canvas where you can see a representation of what your overall slide will look like. This is a great concept however there are some problems with this that are listed in the disadvantages section.
It has a comprehensive list of both 2D and 3D transition effects to smoothly switch between different slides that you can pick and choose from. You can choose to use only 2D effects, only 3D effects, or mix and match between all the different effects available.
The animations that you can use to create your sliders are very good. It allows for fading in and out, moving left, right, up and down, rotating horizontally and vertically, re-sizing an object either smaller or larger as well as skewing an object. It allows you to set the time you would like the effect to begging on an element, how long it will take to compete the effect, and how long to display the object after the effect has been completed. You can also choose to animate the object on it’s exit from the slide.
The settings area allows you to choose the look of your slider, the width and height of your slider, whether the images pause when you hover the mouse over the slider, if there are visible navigation buttons, and a whole host of other options.
Disadvantages Of The Plugin
The LayerSlider plugin only allows you to apply 1 “entry” animation, and 1 “exit” animation on each layer. In other words, if you have an object that you would like to animate to move from one area to another, then move again then this is fine, but if you would like an object to continue to animate (such as bounce) then this is a lot more difficult and requires you to use multiple layers of the same object, one taking off from where the last one ended which is quite time consuming and requires the use of a massive amount of layers.
In some cases, the user interface where you can drag your object around the canvas to position it where you would like, doesn’t match up with what you see when the slider displays on a live page. You can position your objects perfectly on the canvas where you add them into the slider and get everything looking great, and then when you preview it on a live page, the positions of the objects aren’t always where they should be. This can be quite a time consuming operation to get your slider looking exactly how you want when you have to “guess” where to poison some of the objects because the canvas displays them falsely.
LayerSlider is a fantastic plugin that can help you create some great looking sliders for you website. With just a bit of imagination, the right images and the time required to get everything just right, the visual appeal of your site can be greatly enhanced by adding the plugin to your WordPress website.
